Tendring District Council working together to support community during coronavirus outbreak

Political leaders at Tendring District Council (TDC) have made a joint pledge for the authority to support the community during the current coronavirus outbreak.

Residents and businesses are reminded to follow the latest government advice, which can be found at gov.uk, while updates on TDC services can be seen at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/coronavirus

Aware that many residents, organisations and businesses will already be involved in local efforts to support vulnerable members of our community, with movements already springing up on social media, TDC is working to help to co-ordinate this response, so activity can be identified, useful information sent to the groups, and residents signposted to offers of support.

The joint statement was given by Cllrs Neil Stock OBE (TDC Leader), Cllr Ivan Henderson (Labour Group Leader), Cllr Jayne Chapman (Independents Group Leader), Cllr Mark Stephenson (Tendring Independents Group Leader), Cllr Terry Allen (Tendring First Group Leader), Cllr Mary Newton (UKIP Group Leader), Cllr Joy Broderick (Holland and Eastcliff Matters Group Leader) and Cllr Gary Scott (Liberal Democrat Group Leader):

“These are exceptional times that we live, with our community, our country and the world tackling a situation of a kind not seen in the UK at least since the Second World War.

“That is why we are setting politics aside and standing shoulder-to-shoulder as Tendring District Council rapidly gears up to face unprecedented times ahead. We are working closely with the Chief Executive and all council officers on this.

“Community leadership sits at the heart of our Corporate Plan, and that applies just as much during a scenario such as we face now, as it does in our day-to-day work, which is why we are looking to help collate information and co-ordinate that response – as well as carrying out our own work as appropriate.

“The council has been alerted to some amazing work being done in the community around the support of our more vulnerable residents.  We need your help in contacting those groups so that we can share information and signpost those in need to the right place.”

This work will see us collate a list of groups and key contacts in the community, that we can then send relevant information to – including advice about fast-tracking DBS checks, and applications for assistance when provided by government – and also signpost residents to these groups through our website.

Residents are also reminded that TDC’s receptions will be closed to the public from next week (Monday, 23 March), but that services remain operational. However, the council can be contacted via the website (www.tendringdc.gov.uk) – where a number of services can be carried out online – or by calling the contact centre on 01255 686868.

Leisure centres and the Weeley Crematorium currently remain open, in line with Government guidance, but with enhanced cleaning regimes in place.

Decisions on both closure of receptions and buildings which remain open are under constant review.
