Severe Weather Warning THUNDERSTORMS
The Met Office has issued a Severe Weather Warning for THUNDERSTORMS for our area. This warning is valid from 1200 until 2359 on 21st May 2024.
After the dry start, today will see showery rain heading across our region from the south east – this could become heavy and thundery at times. All areas should see the shower activity arrive by the end of this afternoon.
As a result, we have a Yellow Warning of Thunderstorms across all areas – with this warning valid from 1200 until 2359. This warning brings a Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts. which means:
- there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
- where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
Once this initial risk clears, the area of low pressure then brings a scattering of showers for tonight and into Wednesday.
